"When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."

An Obituary printed in the London Times

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

  • Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
  • Why the early bird gets the worm;
  • Life isn't always fair;
  • and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

the death of common senseCommon Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

  • I Know My Rights,
  • I Want It Now,
  • Someone Else Is To Blame,
  • and I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

I was shocked and embarrassed!

Get a grip British People ... Did you watch the Evan Davies documentary on the 24th Feb called "The Day the Immigrants Left", A favourite argument of those who oppose immigration is that migrant workers "take our jobs". Evan went to Wisbech in Cambridgeshire. This is a town with thousands of eastern European workers and 2,000 local people on the dole. Evan and the team arranged for 12 British to replace 12 European workers for two days to see if they able to work at anything as they claimed ... and which their immigrant counterparts were actually doing.

This is where I nearly changed channel in disgust at the British attitued to work. One teenager sent a text to the Potato factory he was about to work in saying that he had just got in at midnight and felt ill, so he could not work the next day. The fact was that of the 12 British workers, half turned up late or not at all. "I won't do a job I don't find very interesting," said 26-year-old lazy, idle, dole loving Lewis, who has been unemployed for five years and was supposed to go to the potato factory. "I do feel a little bit pressurised to get a job, but it's not to the point that I can just take any job that comes". Two that turned up for work .. Paul and Terry ... insisted that the potato-sorting machines had been set deliberately fast to make them look bad ... (they had been slowed down to help the hapless two).

Ashley, a lad who could not even tie his tie, wearing white trainers and having the presence of a chav, quit his restaurant job halfway through his first lunchtime (how bloody embarrassing!) on his first day and then sat down happily to eat the meal offered by his hard working Asian employer Ali. I was at this time hiding behind the sofa ... this is so shocking ... how can the British be sooooo bloody lazy and ill educated?

You wonder if any of them felt the embarrassment that I felt ... not a sign! These annoying 12 disciples of the British non-work force were a bloody joke. The prospect of work for money did not register in their amoeba sized brains and work ethic.

Nanny State Britain ... what have we done to the British People? To idle to work and then complain that Johnny foreigner has taken all the jobs. The programme left me feeling very frustrated if this is a true reflection of Britain.

admin created a blog entry Higher alcohol taxes...

Higher alcohol taxes, halting 24-hour drinking, banning smoking in people’s homes and adding fluoride to water supplies are justified intrusions to improve public health, senior academics said yesterday.

A report by the well-respected Nuffield Council of Bioethics concludes that the Government and industry are not doing enough to prevent binge drinking or obesity and should promote healthy lifestyles through stricter measures and deterrents.

The authors, a group of doctors, lawyers, philosophers and other experts, argue that the much-maligned “nanny state” should be replaced by a new, more sensitive idea of “stewardship”. Campaigners described the report as a potential manifesto for a bully state and industry groups bristled at the prospect of tighter regulation.

The council, which considers ethical questions raised by advances in medical research, looked at alcohol, obesity, smoking, infectious disease and fluoridation of water. It identified alcohol consumption as a huge public health problem and said that the Government could do more. “Increasing tax on alcohol and restricting hours of sale have been shown to be effective in reducing alcohol consumption,” its report states. “Yet the Government’s alcohol strategy has focused on public information campaigns and voluntary labelling schemes, measures that have been shown not to be effective.”
